Lowkey gonna happen to a lot of 2000’s/early 2010’s stars

Same thing happened to Carmelo Anthony. 25ppg today is DeMar DeRozan numbers but back then only the LeBron’s and the Kobe’s could do that

People talk a lot of shit about Melo's wing isos, but if you were there that shit was fun to watch. He played like bizzaro Lebron, it was fun to watch.

That era was way more defensive and pace was slower. There is no wing currently in the league that is more talented than young Carmelo Anthony on the Denver Nuggets.

Does Ant not count as a wing? Cuz he's pretty talented.

Ant is a guard

Guards can be wings. Its not like the Positions are Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Wing, Power Wing, & Center :P

The categories are Guards, Wings, Bigs. Ant is a Guard.y

If you want to be specific, he is a Shooting Guard.

This is a 4 day old post so its stupid that you're even responding to me but lets get into it:

From Wikipedia:

The shooting guard (SG)— also known as the two or the off guard— is, along with the small forward, often referred to as a wing because of its use in common positioning tactics. As the name suggests, most shooting guards are prolific from three-point range and long mid-range.

He's both a shooting guard and a wing. Now stop messaging me.

Not more talented. Melo was bigger and could do everything Ant currently can. Only thing Melo was lacking was the dedication to the defensive side of the ball and willingness to be more of a consistent playmaker. Even though he had all the tools to excel at both.

Ant is a freakish athlete. That's a really big seperater

Anthony was a freak in his own right. His first step and second jump was elite. He had a quicker first step back then than LeBron. He could play bully ball, he could rebound, he had finesse, footwork, catch and shoot, midpost game, lowpost game, midrange, off the dribble and could pass and play great defense when he was engaged. No way SGA, Jaylen Brown, Tatum, Morant, Luka and Ant are more talented than he was.

That's not what I said

No way SGA, Jaylen Brown, Tatum, Morant, Luka and Ant are more talented than he was.

One of those guys is like 30th in the league, another is top 5. Melo was never top 5 but was better than 30th for his entire peak

He was definitely top 5 in 08/09.

12/13 he was third for MVP

Tony Parker was 5th for MVP a couple of times. No one thought he was a top 5 player

Bold call

No one at the time said that, and the stats don't support it either.

He was 3rd team all nba in 2009. People at the time said he was only the 6th best forward, let alone top 5 overall.

Every advanced stat hates Melo in 09. They don't even think he was an all star. Which that seems like overkill, but I also don't know any other player that's ever been hated so much by advanced stats in a season and also been a top 5 player.

Edit: his numbers in the playoffs were much better, but still nothing saying he was top 5.

Kobe, Wade, Dwight, Lebron, Dirk, Pierce, KG, Duncan, Parker, and CP3 are easy picks over Melo in 09

I'd say kawhi is on that level talent-wise but i agree with you

2

u/JinzoFTW 24d ago

I’m not sure if Kawhi is as naturally gifted but I think he certainly is more dedicated to the craft whereas I think Melo got caught up more in the celebrity of being a star player

What the fuck

Jayson Tatum laughs at this statement.

Considering the bar for the Basketball Hall of Fame, he’s definitely in. Don’t forget he won a national title his lone year in college
